PAUL'S 54 RESTORE !!
« on: May 06, 2010, 08:47:49 am »

Well, Well..... you go & tell a fellow about a couple of bombers that he can get & restore & what do he do ?? Him & his brother (Mike) goes right ahead & starts stripping them apart & don't tell anyone about it... especially me... The Old Trucker !!
Then they expect me to give them answers to questions or find out the answers for them. I'll have to give them a break I guess... seeing their still wet behind the ears yet.
Most of the boogies came off the first one except the adjusters. One sprocket almost fell off when taking it apart due to the tapered spindle & the straight shaft in the sprocket. But the other one is stuck on like Mike's was.
Here's the first question. Is there any certain or easy way to get the tapered sprocket shaft off the tapered shaft on the side axle ?? On Mike's he had to take the side axle out & have the sprocket pressed off.  It is the heavy duty diff like you see in Mike's pics.

Paul has the same trouble as his brother Mike, finding time to get at their bombers. He has alot of the rusted floor & lower body sections cut off. I'll have to get a newer update from him, along with a few new pics.

Here's a few new pics of Paul's progress. It will be slow going for him, as he is another truck driver, same as his brother Mike. You work 6-7 days & try to get a day off but the phone keeps on ringing. I guess that's one job with plenty of job security.

Work has been busy for him for awhile now. No time to pick at his bomber. Last week he found an old Ford pickup & got the motor & trans out of it. He has a stand made up for it & will clean it up & get ready to install. He was looking at my engine to see how I had it mounted.
I would have taken pics of his work but I have my camera screwed up....Again !!! Hopefully I'll get a few pics soon...
