General Discussion / Bombardiers compact 2009 b6 ???
« on: September 20, 2008, 06:26:00 am »
No! it's not Bombardiers, but it has new ideas for old machines. Google in  "snow-bears.com"  I like the idea of a deep cycle battery separate of the main engine battery. Sounds good. You could run 12 volt appliances (fresh HOT coffee) while stopped on the trail. Also if the main battery went dead, you could boost yourself.

Wanted / Owners Manuals
« on: September 03, 2008, 09:37:38 am »
I had a couple of phone calls over this long weekend asking me about manuals. A friend of mine just bought a 1957 c18 & another has a 1953 bomber. I'm not sure if it's wide or narrow.
Being me, I said I'd put the word out & see what we can do for these people. Both of these bombs need some repair. I told them about Shavers.
If anyone has anything to offer, please let me know. I check this site daily. My email is readily available. Thanks.

Drivetrain / Two speed rear end
« on: August 26, 2008, 05:55:01 am »
Do you think a two speed rear end would be any good for these old bombers ? I remember when i first drove a truck with the ruxel button on the stick. Thought I was king of the road back then.
It gave you a good starting gear, plus it allowed you to move up by half a gear @ a time, rather than trying to go that full gear & lose it all. Instead of five, you had ten gears. I found them great.
In my last truck I tried an 18 speed. Easier on the clutch, trans, & rear ends. There were so many options I had for power or speed.
Just thinking out loud again. Anybody got some pros & cons about this setup???

Drivetrain / AIR RIDE for the old girl
« on: July 07, 2008, 07:33:32 am »
Has anyone ever thought about putting air ride under a bombardier?? I know it would make it a lot easier on the machine & most of all on the people inside.
Air bags, compressors & supply tanks come in lots of different configurations & sizes to accommodate your every need.
I know some of you will say it will only freeze up & cause headaches. That is not true. Look at all the truck/trailer combos going up & down the road. What's under them for suspension?
They even sell air ride setups for cars & pickups. I have used air ride for years on my trucks & have not had any problems at all.
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas about this setup??

Body / hinges & handles
« on: June 27, 2008, 06:02:23 pm »
I got an email from David @ ab metals, Que. He says they used handles & hinges from Faucher Industries on their machine. They're look clean & sharp looking. I think they have a branch in Edmondton, AB. Google in their name for a look. Should have some pics of their bombardier on shortly!!!

Metal Bombardiers / wide gauge woodie
« on: May 30, 2008, 07:07:31 am »
Can anyone tell me if the wide gauge wooden body is the same shape as the narrow gauge??? Is the undercarriage the same configuration as the narrow? I know it's wider.

Folks I just ran accross this site. It's about chrysler marine engines. I just thought some of the ol' 251 parts may be helpful to them & vice versa. I posted a message on their forum welcoming them to look @ our site & possibly help each other out.
   That address worked for me.

General Discussion / Grfishmaker's pictures
« on: April 22, 2008, 06:19:17 am »
Hey, do anybody know what happened to Grfishmakers pics?
The wording is there, but the pics are gone.
Did anyone say anything to him or slap him around.
Wonder if it's me, giving him too many leads, trying to help him out.
Do anybody else have this problem? If it's just me, please let me know.

Wooden Bombardiers / Houlio's smart test
« on: April 12, 2008, 04:42:30 pm »
Putting you on the spot Houlio?  Listen buddy I was wondering if you would answer a few questions for me.
#1  When you first got to restoring the woodie, was the engine working or not? If not did you have much trouble getting it going?
#2   Did you have much rotten wood to replace & was it the first time?
#3   What kind of screws did you use, stainless, brass, or coated?
#4   Did you put any kind of sealant between the new plywood & frame? If so, what?
#5   Did you have much trouble making the windows leak proof & what did you use?
#6   How bad was the wiring?
#7   What about tires & sprockets? Much dry rot?
#8   Was there any metal pieces (like the pan area) that needed patching?
#9   What about all the linkages (clutch, brake, gas)? You have any trouble there?
#10  Did the old wood take stain pretty good after sanding?

Please take your time & answer each question.

Yes sir, I mean just smack it. I just got off the phone after talking to a fellow about a possible machine for sale. It started off ok but then he said he cut it up & took it to the dump.
Well couldn't you JUST$^&*($@. But it all worked out half decent. He still has the full front assembly( skis, steering, etc.)
Also he has a lot of grousers (cleats), sprockets, and rear end.
He said I will have first chance @ it. I'm slowly gonna get it together.

Lighting / Piaa lights
« on: March 31, 2008, 06:03:11 am »
B_Skura in the post on trail talk under lets see those pictures, you talked about the piaa lights. Did you buy them locally? What size diameter & wattage are they? What's the model #?
I guess they take a replacement bulb. You mentioned about having to use the original switch & couldn't use a regular switch.
You also mentioned the light has multi functions. Can you tell me how many positions are on the switch & what the function is of each one?
How many wires go to & from it? Sounds like a good light for my son to have on the front of his truck to help see those damm moose @ night. It, the truck has all heavy duty switches. I will use one of the optional switches.
                                                        Thanks , Claude
