Title: 318 to 360
Post by: Sn0wking on December 24, 2012, 10:42:56 pm
Hi all,

My first post on this forum and it has to be on christmas eve;)

I just ordered a rebuilt 360 dodge motor and will be removing my 318 to put in the 360. I have the 727 short shaft auto with the brake. I also have a power asteering ram at the front of the bomb running of a pump on the engine. What do i need to know about doing the swap? I have the 360 coming with intake and carb. Any tips or ideas to consider would be much appreciated. As a side note, as part of this swap i am considering changing my traditional side vent exhaust to a rear upwards stack version. My bombi is a 74 wide gauge.

Cheers and happy holidays,

sn0w

As I did, everything should be compatible to the new engine. The only thing I had a problem after all the hassle was the 360 is externally balanced engine as for the 318 is internally balanced meaning you would have to have your torque converter removed to weld on some weights to balance the engine or get a flex plate off a 360 engine or order new from an auto parts store. I get my parts from summit racing all online for the engine, transmission and diff parts.

NO, No, NO,
The early 313/318 had forged cranks which did not need external balancing ( a Harmonic Balancer) The later engines need the HB. (Non Poly)
The flywheel balancing and torque converter balancing hand nothing to do with engine balancing!
