Thanks OLD trucker.  It looks alot like 48bomber's and Houlio's.  These pics were taken this month at a vintage snowmobile ride near McGreger,MN.  Will get more pics of details when it gets out of garage. Have been researching cause for differential whine. Ideas?

General Discussion / 1948 B12 gas tank vent
« on: January 20, 2010, 12:26:30 pm »
This B12 I'm working on has the gas tank vented by copper tube up to the top of the engine compartment then back and exits straight down above the rear wheel.  Looks like a good place to plug up with ice/snow.  Any comment?  I have been working on a fuel supply issue.  The tank is out and rinsed.  I put a Polaris snowmobile pick screen in the tank and plan to put a strainer/sediment bowl immediately outside the tank, then there is already another in line filter.  Haven't been into the carb, but plan to lift the top and take a peak in there.
            Thanks, BIGDAVE

Have seen a couple!!!!  A restored one in truck/tractor museum outside Sacramento, CA at Woodland.  the unrestored other is at old settlers museum at Fairbanks, AK.  Have pics and some history.  We have also been looking for more footage of a screw auger driven 1930? Tucker.  We have some scratchy footage taken in the Sierras.  BIGDAVE

48bomber, I viewed your pics with interest.  I am working on '48 B12 for a friend.  Nothing heavy yet, mainly fuel delivery-rust in tank, and small wiring issues.  Although I have not finished examining the entire machine, it looks very original and sound.  It looks very much like yours and at first glance they could be mistaken for one another.  I have no experience with BIG BOMBERS but am learning through this forum.  I do have some info on Chrysler flatheads from old MOTORS manual and 1945 US Army manual on the 236.6.  This motor says T120 IND and might be 251.
Thanks for the input to this forum.  BIGDAVE

BIGDAVE, Grand Rapids, MN.  I have been asked to help a friend on a nice '48  B12 with a few problems, rusty gas tank, blinky lights, honky horn, whine in diff?  Never touched one B4 but saw some on Lake O the Woods.  Owner says check out this forum for all I need to know.  I am retired from paper mill and have several vintage snowmobiles and help others with their projects.  Antique Snowmobile Club member and have experience with the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame.  I have mostly Arctic Cat and OMC '67-'76.  Nothing nice (except my wife, who wholly suports my absence). 1948 is just barely older than I am!!!!  I have several Wankel stuff and have ridden the (not mine) 606 twin!  BIGDAVE Johnson
