Does anyone have suggestions or comments about getting a Bombardier appraised or insured?  I spoke with the local small town insurance firm and they weren't sure where to start.

I was told that the differences between a B-12 C and a B-12 CS are as follows:

B-12 C                              B-12 CS

Chrysler T-112, 85 HP      Chrysler T-120, 100 HP (the special is for engine)        Engine
Center of wheels 38"       Center of wheels 41"                                                   Width
Width 13" 1/4                   Width 17" 1/2                                                              Tracks

Rackoholic,
To the best of my knowledge, the "R" designation was for models that had interchangeable wheels and skis.  The "C" designation was used for the "C-18" which was an expanded version of the B-12 model, that seated 18 people.

Rackoholic,
I looked in the "Maintenance Manual and Spare Parts List" I have and there is a paragraph on page 7 that states:

"The vehicle code number B-12CS is a code set up to a positive identification of the vehicle.  This particular code represents the following: B means Bombardier.  12 means 12 passengers, the capacity of the vehicle, C means it is powered by a Chrysler motor, S means the model is special."

Thanks for the notes, it's great to see all the other models on this site as well.  There is a lot of work and creativity that went into these units.

Averyman:
Regarding the finishing of the wood, we used the following:
   From Home Hardware
Wood Shield - Semi Transparent Oil Stain - "Harvest" from brochure #8927-986

   From Chemcraft Finishes (Wpg)
#620-106 D-Dur Clear Satin mixed with #999-062 D-Dur Catalyst (sprayed three coats)

Sure, I'm interested in meeting and talking Bombardiers.  Nice job on yours by the way very different.  Ours is put away right now, so working on putting together scrapbook of the project before the info gets lost.

I haven't had to reseal it yet, but the trick is to try and keep it protected from the elements.  It was finished in June of 2004.

I don't know if this helps anyone, but I have the original "Maintenance Manual & Spare Parts List" for a 1949 B12-CS Bombardier.  This manual has been scanned is is available electronically.

Clarence (Brandon)
You must have been lost if you were from Brandon travelling by here!  Ha Ha      Let me know if you're close to St. Brieux again.

Do you have problems with the front window fogging up?  Or is there a solution?

Thanks for the link B_Skurka, they look awesome.  We had a hard time finding information when we worked on ours, so I don't mind sharing information when possible.

Are you still looking for some pictures for your website?  I put some pictures together on a website of the build project we did on a 1949 Bombardier.  If you want to use any of them let me know and I could email them to you.  The site is not real user friendly, but if you click on the pictures or the small icons in the top left you should be able to look around.
