General Discussion / SKI WHEELS
« on: August 26, 2010, 05:22:07 pm »
Tell me if this is a dumb idea.  A couple years ago I built ski wheels for my polaris sled similar to http://skiwheelz.com/.  There is a video on the main page that you can watch.  They do work good, but I find that they are not used much because you can get off the sled and help push the front while your moving to turn on pavement or gravel.  Obviously you can't do that with a bomber plus they don't turn very sharp either so you need as much traction as possible for steering.  The places that it may be used would be for refueling at a service station and probably for repair work etc during the summer.  I don't have any use out of mine yet to know if going for fuel is much of a problem or not.  Feedback good or bad is appreciated.

Paint / Pinstriping
« on: August 16, 2010, 08:25:43 pm »
Does anyone have a metal with the original pinstripping still on,   like in this picture?

I am looking for some measurements of particularily the corners.  I have a vinyl cutter that I use for cutting decals and if I had some measurements I could draw it up in autocad.  I can make it available to others if they wish to pinstripe their machines.

General Discussion / Bombardier pricing
« on: August 03, 2010, 07:52:28 pm »
Now this is inflation.  I wonder if most of this cost came from building out of metal as 1951 was the year that they switched from wood to steel.  This page also had a picture that showed a bombardier, but has wheel wells in front so it must be a metal body, but the head lights are lower on the hood much like a 1952 and not like on my 1951.

This is a cut/paste from a translated french web page.

B-12 bomber
Bomber B-12, 1951, bought in 1956 per Alexis Charon, of Saint-Ulric, before his restoration. In 1951, this vehicle, nine, were worth 1500 $, but it cost approximately 6000 $ in 1956, whereas new a Chevrolet truck was sold 2500 $.

I found this.

I've ordered one as well as the other guages.  It looks like it will be easy to set to get correct speed and mileage.

Wooden Bombardiers / Reskinning Doors
« on: May 26, 2010, 09:31:01 pm »
Cranman, when you've reskinned the doors with 24ga, are you simply welding a new skin on or are you folding the skin over the angle iron frame.  How hard is it to keep the door frame shape if you are folding the sheet over the angle's edge.  How hard is it to fold the radiused corners.
