V8 Engines / Mechanical or Electric Fuel Pump
« on: November 25, 2022, 09:19:38 am »
Hello All, I own a 1963 R 12 with a 313 V8.
When I did the 313 rebuild I installed an 12Volt electric fuel pump. I can not get them to last, I am replacing my second one with only about 4 hours on it.
Has anyone had experience with the electric modification. The reason I did this was that I heard that the mechanical system was prone to vapour locking.

General Discussion / Wheels for a R Model Ski
« on: October 21, 2022, 02:31:01 pm »
Hello All, I feel like I am reinventing the wheel but has anyone designed a removal wheel assy for the R model ski. I have been mucking around with a wheel from set from a snow blower and they are too light. The shafts bend and the wheel hubs break out of the hub. I am now looking at a axel/bearing hub 4 bolt from Princess and mount two 8" trailer tires and rims. Has anyone have  a better idea. Sure would like some help.

V8 Engines / Radiator Rebuild
« on: September 25, 2022, 08:53:23 am »
Hello, Has anyone found a reasonable recorer of the Bombardier brass rads. I got a quote last spring here in Sault Ste Marie for $1400.  This is totally not reasonable. Amazon ca has an aluminum unit which is very close to a match available for less than $300

Drivetrain / Only One track driving 1963 R12
« on: April 01, 2022, 03:22:45 pm »
Thge other day The R/H track started to spin on ice when we were loading the machine onto our trailer. Today taking he machine off the trailer and putting it in the garage , it sounded like it was slipping again. R/H side, so I got out to check it. The R/H track had jumped off. The rubber drive sprocket turns all directions. It should be locked up?Correct?????? This is all new to me. I am wondering if I broke an axel??
Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Bob

Has anyone out there carried out this mod? A lot of machines in PQ have them installed.  Does some one sell these as a kit or supplies drawings. How does in work? Sure like to hear about them.  Bob

Metal Bombardiers / Engine Door
« on: November 22, 2019, 03:01:52 pm »
Does anyone have a set of engine doors in good shape or know of a firm that can stamp out a set of new skins. The R/H door skin is especially bad.

I would just like to say thank you to the guys that have been helping me with my Power steering and Window questions. Without Northern Tracks this would have been an almost impossible task.
Keep up the great work and we all will have a better understanding of our machines and make them better for years to come.
Thanks

Drivetrain / Brakes
« on: January 24, 2007, 09:12:52 am »
Hello out there and I just want to say that this forum is a great way for us Snowbus guys to move information around. I'm down here in Sault Ste Marie restoring a R63 which I got off a retired fisherman who used to work Lake Nipigon. It has been a long endeavour but interesting.
Has anyone ever come up with a reliable braking system. The drum brake on the transmission is not the most reliable way to use in a continuous operation. It would seem to me that some sort of hydraulic hand operated master cylinder and caliper and disc could be mounted on the input pinion of the Differential
Any ideas or suggestions out there
Have a great winter and be careful
