« on: September 22, 2013, 11:24:50 am »
Can't help with any used wheels, but we sell new aluminum wheels built to the same specs as the original.  If interested call us at (800) 473-3360.  The wheels stronger better looking and "wont rust".  We also sell tires for this application.

It is true that wheels for the snow coach are getting tougher to find.  Bombardier built these in house and have discontinued them.  Alpine Guide Tire designed and now cast aluminum wheels for Snow coach application.  They will not rust out and always look good.  They are stronger than the original, but still are made to the same spec as the original.  These wheels can be machined for the Muskegg and will also fit the sidewalk plows.  These wheels are a must if we want to keep the snow coach around for another 50 years.  You can contact Alpine Guide tire at 800-473-3360 or email at Info@alpineguidetire.com or sales@alpineguidetire.com.  If all else fails, email me at clydeh@alpineguidetire.com.  We also manufacture a 10" wheel for the Bombi, BR100 etc. for the same reason.  They are no longer supplied by Bombardier or Prinoth.

We also supply "Bearing Buddy" for the Snow Coach and the Bombi.  These are threaded to take the place of the O.E. Caps.  We also have bearings and cups for these wheels.

Viking,

Yes it was considered.  But the majority of the potential customers were not considering a bolt on.  So we decided to go like the original.  We are considering a 12 inch wheel bolt on and a 13 inch bolt on.

O.T.,

The wheel is cast in a permanent steel mold.  When it comes out it weights 35lbs.  After machining it's weight is 23 lbs.  We did think about making it like the steel rim, but it would have weighed close to 30 lbs.  So we got the same or better strength with our current design.

O.T.,

Good Idea.  I met with Dan last week in Stonewall.  I will order one.

In answer to the slush question; The only surface that could have a build up would be the horizontal or flat surfaces.  The Bombardier wheel actually has a larger flat surface than the aluminum wheel.  The webbing between gussets prevents the bridge build up of ice.  LMC used similar wheels for many years with no ice build up problems.  One other factor is that these wheels do not run cold.  There is enough heat generated to keep the ice from building up.

By the way the webbing between the Gussets is 3/8 inch thick and at the gusset (spoke) it is 5/8 inch thick.

O.T.

I don't think we would have any problem with a slight change to the machining.  Could you get me some measurements of the excluder.  It would help us to machine for it.  I appreciate what you wrote.  It will help us to make the wheel even better.

We currently do not have stocking dealers in Manitoba, though we have dealers that will order as needed.  Some of these are, OK tire in Morris, KK Penner with several stores in the area.  We can ship to you direct.  We do have distributors in Edmonton, and in Quebec who do stock the tires.  We ship a lot of product into Canada to other dealers and to end users.  You used the term "excluder".  I am not acquainted with that term.  I can say that the wheel has all of the steel wheel measurements.  The only difference would be the added thickness of the Aluminum that gives it the added strength the steel wheel does not have.

OT,

You ask very good questions.  Your last question is interesting.  Electrolysis has been a problem in the past between metals.  More so back in the 40's and 50's.  I have not seen much problem in this direction for quite some time.  I believe the new aluminum formulas are much better.  In the long run it might be a problem especially if not kept clean.  It  would however take a long period of time.  This potential problem is why we are in the middle of creating our own cap. If I learn more, I will post it.

The Old Trucker,

The wheel is threaded and you can use the old cap.  The wheel can come with the bearing Buddy to fit this wheel.  Currently a new cap is being worked on and might be available in the not too distant future.

The old Trucker,

I failed to say that the tire size is 4.50-16 6 ply.

The Old Trucker,

The Wheels are new and were specifically designed for the Snow Coach. The computer model tested at 30,000 lbs which is stronger than needed and they won't rust.   The tires are also designed for the snow coach.  They are a 6 ply with a pressure maximum capacity of 105 psi.  They have a recommended pressure of 70 psi but they seem to run well at 50 to 60 psi.  The tread design is three rib.  The reason for this is to help cool the tire.  The smooth tread design would be cheaper to build, but choice was to  improve on the application.  The bead area is also stronger than competition design with the sidewall more straight up and down.  This allows the tire to resist rolling over from side pressure.  Xanterra, the company that has the vender contract with Yellowstone Park and runs 28 of the coaches, has been running this tire since 1994.  They tell me that it cut replacement cost by 30 percent after two years and got even better as full replacement took place in subsequent years. You can see the tire on Alpine Guide Tire web site. alpineguidetire.com

The wheels  are built as a stronger wheel than the steel.  They are built stronger to work on the J-5 and Muskegs as well as the coaches.  The wheels are 356 aluminum heat treated to T-6 which is the strongest aluminum made.  The wheels were shown to Shaver this past week and he said they far exceed what he had expected.  They are rated stronger than the steel wheel.  The tires are ribbed to better dissipate heat and are stronger than previous known brands
