Manny Jacob
Pinawa, Manitoba

Licence plate collector since 1987, first registered here in 2011 after my initial efforts to collect Bombardier plates. Rekindled the interest recently after receiving a few SV plates from a friend.
On top of my interest in plates, I actually think the Bombardier snow bus is a really cool machine even though I'll probably never have one of my own. It's a lot of fun to search along the backroads of Manitoba looking for Bombardier photos and plates and also seeing all the beautiful restorations on display in St. Raymond, Quebec.

General Discussion / Bombardier blurb for an article, is this accurate?
« on: December 23, 2019, 07:46:47 pm »
I have compiled a brief history blurb on the Bombardier snow bus from what I could gather through google. Is this accurate? Feel free to suggest better wording if I am not accurate.

Thank you in advance!

Manny

The seven-seat model B7 was invented by Joseph-Armand Bombardier in 1936 following the death of his young son due to illness because he couldn’t reach a hospital during a winter blizzard. Initially made with a wood body and steel frame, these machines featured a distinctive rounded body and were equipped with front skis and rear tractor treads. Subsequent models included a 12-seat configuration in 1942 (models B12, C12 and R12), increase to the 18-seat capacity models (C18, R18 with front wheels instead of skis) in 1947 and the change from wood to steel body shortly afterwards. The Bombardier snow bus was produced until 1981.

Back after nearly 10 years away. Seems Manitoba has eliminated the SV plate category on March 1, 2019. Just checking if anyone might have a plate or two? Interested in any year from 1938-present.

I would be grateful if anyone who goes to that rally in Quebec could check for any machines with license plates and to get photos of these plates. Especially the C plate with December sticker.

I realize plate collecting may seem odd, but it's a hobby I am quite passionate about and I've always found it weird that there are special plates for Bombardiers. Hoping the fine folks on this forum can share some as outlined in my other posts.

Take care and happy motoring!

Hi there, does anyone have any photos of Bombardiers from Quebec with a C or SN plate attached? I am a license plate collector and interested in these license plates, which are specific to Bombardiers.

Wanted / Bombardier license plates

Hi,

I am very pleased to have found this forum and have been lurking here for a few months, looking for license plates used on Bombardiers. I have been interested in license plates since 1987 and have a collection of different Manitoba, Quebec and other plates. Does anyone on this forum run plates (real ones, not novelty designs) on their snow vehicles? I've managed to collect a couple of plates thanks to some very helpful folks here in Manitoba, and would be interested in collecting some of the years I am missing.

Perhaps folks here would be interested in my research, which indicates the following plates issued for Bombardiers (ie. tracked snow machines in excess of 450KGs):

MB: up to 1997 plates started with letter S and 1-4 numbers, 1997-present regular car plates but with SV sticker top left
QC: up to 1989 plates started with letters SN, from 1989-1995 plates start with C and have a December (12) month sticker top left

I would also be interested in seeing any photos anyone might have of these scarce plates in use. I did find a photo of one on here a while back from 1949 with MB plate S-54, that was a real classic.

For my collection I am looking for the above plates. Does anyone here have any of these plates either in use or on junked snow machines that are no longer being used? It would be a shame for them to be tossed out as I am quite interested in collecting them!

Thanks for reading my post and I hope to hear from anyone with photos, plates or info.
