Body / PLASTIC GAS TANKS
« on: April 04, 2013, 06:02:38 pm »

I got this email today from Dave Olsen showing a new gas tank for the bombers. Here's what he had to say about them.

Hi O.T., Took these pictures at Dan Shaver's today. Could you post them on a N.T. "New Topic" field so the guys can see the latest. They are to be held in place with a ratchet strap, some also use a marine fuel tank disconnect. Both are for quick tank removal.Tank is clear enough to see the fuel, gas gauge is not a firm requirement. The moulded handles make it sweet to handle.Gas cap is a mid nineties automotive screw in style, seems to work well with the one I saw in action.Gas filler hole needs to be cut larger. There is threaded brass fitting on top for the fuel pick-up. Looks like Dan is the dealer, pricing not set yet. Best to call him.  Thanks for your handy work, D.O.

Lighting / Re: Original head lights
« on: March 29, 2013, 03:37:29 pm »
Graydy I have a new set of pots ordered through my local truck supplier for 57 Rebuild. Google trucklite.com & look for the catalog. In the catalog search box type in 88-05950 for the pot. The bulb # is 6015 (12 volt). All the specs are there..  These are the bigger lights used in older days on trucks. The newer (80's) & up used 5-6" lights. I thought they cost around 15 to 17 bucks each... I hope this helps you...Ohh they are available in chrome also..

V6 or Straight 6 Engines / 300 carbed versus 300 injected Ford.
« on: March 28, 2013, 06:56:19 am »

57 Rebuild's brother Paul is looking for a 300 carbed Ford/ trans combo.

I came accross a 86, maybe an 88 Ford pickup complete for him. He's supposed to able to drive it away, but he's uneasy about the fuel injection part.
Is there much differance in the engines  ??? Anyone have an injected engine in their Bombardier & how do it work ??

I think Swamp Dawg was talking about this at one time but I can't seem to find it.

Walrus I have a 300 (4.9) with a C6 trans out of a pickup with less than 70 thousand on it. I drove it home. Can you tell me when Ford changed to fuel injection ? I was told in 1985 but I think it's 1987, according to my paperwork.

I don't know if you are still interested, but here is a couple of pics of a homemade one built right here in Canada. I may be able to find out more info on this if you were interested.     OT.

V6 or Straight 6 Engines / Flooding 251 engine
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:34:33 pm »

My friend Mike,(57 rebuild) has a 1957 C18 Bombardier that is close to ready to plow through some snow. He had the original engine out to clean up, install new seals & gaskets & make her purddy looking. He put in a new carb kit & new electric fuel pump that puts out 5-8 PSI. It starts first click of the key & sounds good but when he gives it a shot of gas she will give out a noticeable puff of black smoke. His question is this; Is it ok to run the electric pump or should he go back to the original manual pump or would it be carb problems ?

OT.

hi,

I know you are a regular poster on Northern Tracks and seem to have your pulse on the Bomber community.  I'm looking for 2 or three wide gauge bombardiers for purchase.  Any condition would be fine.

Thanks for any help you can give.

O.T. Today's photos of the pinstripe going on as we speak. Should be done later today. Oldsledz

Oldsledz, here is my question. In this pic it shows the (rub rail or stiffener). Is it made from oak & if so what size is the wood & what size round over bit did you use ??

He's waiting on new motor door skins from Shavers. Next is the wood oak stiffner. What came off it was 1"x2" oak, so he'll replace it with the same. But wasn't the strips made from 2x2 stock ?? I think he'll be getting new door handles also. There's a fellow around that does pinstriping by hand, so maybe he may get lucky...

I think there is a place down south that sell them, but that's even further away for shipping. Plus the time you deal with customs & duty, it all adds up.
