Nice job.. As a restorer of old tractors I favour keeping everything as origional as possible and plan to do the same with the Bombardier. I plan on upgrading to 12 volt though to get better lighting but I will retrofit with a generator rather than an alternator just to keep the same appearance. I'm looking for fabric to match the origional . Because my machine is one of the last wooden bodied machines I believe it has collector value as not too many have survived.  Just my opinion....Clarence

Thanks Eski and Cranman.. I purchased new pre-punched belts from Shavers and have started transferring the cleats, I agree that it would be a better job for the summer. Dan at Shavers was very helpful and I have no hesitation in recommending them, I don't know what the sport would do without their services..

Beautiful pictures Swamp Dawg...  What is that apparatus on the rear of your machine???   Is your machine wood or metal, I can't really tell from the pictures. I've been told that 1951 was the last year for wood bodies, is that correct?

We have beautiful snow on the fields out here on the prairie, about a foot deep, soft and smooth.  Went for a couple of runs with the family last weekend and they really enjoyed it. The snow has melted a bit and should be firmer now, maybe we can get up on top and a little more speed as it was really lugging in high gear before. Machine is really running good for a 56 year old....

Many thanks for all the info cranman...  I picked up new track belts at Shavers this week and have started transferring cleats.. big job! I'm using cleats off the swamp buggy tracks to make up the first track so I won't lose use of the machine while making them up.
I also put in a new carb kit and fuel pump. Quite a challenge to change the fuel pump!  I have a heater and fuel gauge in my machine.
The carb kit is NAPA #2-5066A
The fuel pump is NAPA #588

General Electrical / 6 volt to 12 volt?

I'm thinking of changing the 6 volt system in my 1951 B-12 to a 12 volt system in order to operate some good halogen headlights.. Anyone out there done the conversion?  I know the starter will work well on 12 volts and I will have to change bulbs. What about an ignition resistor?  Any help appreciated..  Thanks,
Clarence

Here are the track cleat dimensions... Outer holes 14 1/2 " center to center and inner holes 8" c to c. Holes are 11/32" diameter on 3 1/4" centers for 5/16" bolts.  This is the same bolt pattern as on my B-12 tracks. Overall length is 16" which is nearly 1/2" longer than on my tracks.   They show a little wear but have many good miles left in them yet. At present they are still attached to the old tracks.  We had a big snowfall here in Brandon and I took the machine for a short run yesterday.. I'm hooked!!

I have about 100 links and reinforcement cleats on a couple of old tracks that were used on a swamp buggy that I bought years ago at an auction sale. Anyone need them? What is the going price?
Thanks, Clarence

My 1951 B 12 has  original tracks that look to be in good shape and it was said to have been stored inside most of its life. My questions are what is the normal life expectancy of a set of tracks? Just over 9000 miles on the machine. What do I look for when checking them over? Are new tracks available? At what cost?  My computer would'nt download the Shavers catalogue.
Thanks, Clarence

General Discussion / Service Manuals

I am the proud owner of a 1951 Bombardier Model B-12CS that I recently purchased. It is a low mileage machine in excellent original condition.  My question is, were there service manuals for these machines and if so where could I get a copy?   I have the original "Maintenance Manual and Spare Parts Lists" book that I would be willing to copy in exchange. Also, is there any business out there that still supplies  parts?
Thanks. Clarence
