groomerguy how long do you think those machines have been there in beardmore? i know swamp dwag thought the metal looked half decent on them. from what i see, i agree with swamp dwag. i have a post ?? (i think that's what it's called) in getting registered on a possible find near my town. i was wondering what the bottom of that woodie looked like. i'm trying  to get a mental picture of what to expect when i see it come summer. do you know where the serial ##'s would on a woodie?

General Discussion / getting registered
« on: February 20, 2008, 08:36:59 am »
how would someone register a bombardier? like if i found one abandoned in the woods, couldn't find the owner, and wanted to take it home and restore it. i checked with motor vehicle register here and they said i have to provide proof of ownership or it can't be registered to me without a bill of sale. i recently heard of an old bomber left in the woods across the lake from me about ten years ago. can't seem to find the owner of it, yet.
oh well, time to get the old sniffer going again.

FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR TAIL LIGHTS.
i just got off a web site called     taillightking.com    MAN, the tail lights your looking for are there. i mean  BRAND NEW lights.
i got shagged up a little on it. when you get it on the screen look to the left & click on truck & trailer lights & lenses. then click on odd or unusal shaped. scroll down through. the one i'm talking about is #30079 (like yankee 77) MAN i mean brand new & in stock. check it out now.   i have this thing about lights. i'm possesed with them.  chuckle, chuckle

Lighting / L E D LIGHTS
« on: February 17, 2008, 06:10:28 am »
led lights are bright, but i wouldn't put them on the back of any machine being used in the winter months. yes they do use less amperage. but the problem is they do not give off very much heat like incandecant bulbs do. snow will cover the lights in no time flat. we had them on a couple of new trailers we had. nobody wanted to haul them in the winter. thought i'd pass along this tidbit of information.

i just saw a set of (5) five piece teardrop cab marker lights. i would take it to be five lights & not five pieces per light. their available with   RED  lenses. jcwhitney.com  part # is zx126664t.
$30.99     check it out folks.

Lighting / HI/LO can you see the light??
« on: February 15, 2008, 06:53:00 am »
remember in the 70's & 80's when the trucks had 4 round headlights? i remember we used to take out the high beam light & replace it with a 150 watt 6" driving light. all i had to do was make up a couple of short jumper wires. man wasn't it bright.
what i'm saying is you should still be able to get the pots that take the replacement bulbs. all you do is get the hi/lo bulbs
80/100 watts. wire in a dimmer switch & your done!!!!!

do northern tracks have any caps or t shirts for sale? i know we have over 60 members and still growing. i think it would be nice to wear and advertise something for this site. just imagine, wearing a t shirt with an old bomber pic on it. just wondering what your thoughts are about it.

General Discussion / Is it possible to build a bombarier from scratch?
« on: February 04, 2008, 11:50:52 am »
i'm not very good with the  computer.i just saw more pics on the 52 rebuild. is that one yours? definately worth more than a thousand words. i started reading about these machines 2 yrs. ago when cdn. home workshop wrote an article about cameron mclean. since then i've started looking and asking around about them.
I found out about 10 of them here on the island. but i have a better chance of buying hens teeth. so here we are now.

Strange things are always brewing in my head. why can't i build a wooden bomber from scratch? i have a lot of ideas. just listen. dummy spare tires & hubs mounted to torsion bar axles. guess. i think i can get the cleats & sprockets off a couple of old j5's. new belting would also be in order. also i think i'll have to buy the steering setup. i think i can acess some steel plate for the tub frame & front. what size channel and/or angle do you need for the chassis? this would be the hardest part of the job. i like working with wood. i like the model with the short angle just in front of the door. please don't tell me that i'm crazy, because the wife will only laugh & agree with you. hope you get this.

also what thickness and width belting can i use for the track? is the axle on the j5 same width as on the narrow gauge.
