Paint / Re: paint type
« on: February 08, 2011, 10:49:20 pm »
I plan on doing mine with PPG's Delfleet, which is similar to Dupont's Imron, polyurathane. A very strong and durable paint that is used on semi-tractors. I have use this several times before in the past doing autobody repair and paint. There is several different brands and product lines to choose from. I am partial to PPG having use it for 20 plus years. Mine is a wood body and I plan on stripping all the paint to be sure the wood is in good condition. If you are working with steel, I would go by the condition of the paint and body. If the paint and bodyfiller are not cracked, you can get a very nice finish just sanding it putting primer-surfacer on the places where it is needed, then spray a new paint job right over the top.
If you have any questions I will try to answer them.

I think this one would be a good to modify some. How would a V8 fit in a narrow?

I still have the 251 6banger in my woody, it works quite hard and is very thirsty, when breaking a new trail. I would really like to put a Vortec small Chevy with the injection on it, but I hate to modify the mine that much right now.

Wascana, I live north of Minot. I like the Cockshutt, I am sure the Woody will look great when you get it finished. Today I was running my 51 Woody along 83 in the area of Forfar. I hope you wave if you see me!

Cranman, I won't get the gearbox to make the speed read correctly.
kpm, I live north central North Dakota.
I like the look of the SW gauges. I drove the bomber to town tonight for a meeting,
one of the people in the meeting noticed a car stop to take pictures of it.

Old trucker, the last time that we had enough snow for any length of time was the late 80's. My dad was going to get it out in 96, but the fuel tank had a hole. When I built the new one I could put my fist inside the old tank. The BOMBER BUG hit my wife when we got about two feet of the white stuff (so I have to thank her for being on my butt to get it out). I put points, plugs, a battery, and the new fuel tank in her and had it fired up THAT DAY. This is also a list of things that I know are not original. Getting the old bomber running was easy, finding the time is another story. I have two boys ;D and a girl  ;D ranging in age from nine to fourteen, a full time job, and
the farm, that take alot of time. I will take new pictures tomorrow, they will be posted soon after.

My name is John Gunning from Lansford, ND. I have a 1951 wide woody that was purchased new by my grandfather. He ordered it in the winter of 1949-1950, recieved it in late 1951. It has been in the family all its life. I pulled it out and put it in the shop two weeks ago, after sitting for close to 20 years. I took it for a drive with several friends on Superbowl Sunday. The old girl runs great, sounds even better, and looks pretty fair for being all original (except for the gas tank). I will post pictures as soon as I take new ones.
