Wooden Bombardiers / Re: OT'S 47-51 ??? Rebuild ??
« on: September 28, 2011, 02:10:35 pm »
I checked with my supplier and he said they were discontinued but they would make a batch with a minimum order of 250. Your next option is to take a set of calipers and measure the out side size on the diff and the size of the yoke and match one up that way.

I bought my HEI off ebay they only have one on right now it is a PROFORM part# pro-67040 for $212.30 summit has the same one for $261.95. If you go with the HEI you need to check the clearance from the center of the distributor to the firewall you need 3 1/4 inches. At times there is cheaper ones on ebay.

Hi the HIE ignition is the way to go we have done 2 318 and a 360 I also am putting one in my 351.You can get them off ebay or get them from summit racing. When you do the upgrade you have to use a heavy wire from the ignition to the distributor. With the upgrade you will notice the engine runs and starts better

V8 Engines / Re: 318 or 350??
« on: November 12, 2010, 12:35:17 pm »
I run a ford 351 with a C it has been in my bug for 28 years dad has a 318 with a 727 in his for 34 years. These machines are used all winter for commercial fishing a personal use. The 318,350,351 are  all good engines its a mater of personal preference.I like my ford i can put 44 tubs in the bug and 35 in the trailer and haul it 55 miles on 10 gallons of gas this is threw the bush and over a 1500 foot hill. The 318 is better on the lake it uses less gas idling and the high rise water pump lets you can run the ice auger off the crank.

Transmissions / Re: Kick down on auto transmission.
« on: November 04, 2010, 11:53:56 am »
Hi we have been tying the kick down forword for years yes they have a crisp shift but if you hook it up and do not have it set up right it will burn up your transmission.Do you need a passing gear in a bug. I drive my automatic like a manual i start in 1 then 2 will stay in that gear unless on a good hard trail then i will go to 3 . In 2 gear at 2500 rpm i will be going about 20 mph.

Hi the kick down in a auto transmission is a passing gear it goes from 3 to 2. The kick down shoud be unhooked and the lever on transmisson needs to be tied all the way to the front "engine" side of the transmission. If the transmission still shifts up and down you have transmission problems. You do not need the passing gear we have 4 bugs 2 with 727 transmissions and 2 with c6 never had a problem with them in 25 years.
