Title: Alternator draw
Post by: jimzag on March 20, 2013, 09:15:09 pm

Hi I just changed my 251 to 12 volt with a Delco one wire alt, and 12 volt coil.
Now if bomber sits for a day or two the battery is Totally dead. There isn't
anything on And there is no spark at all when you contact the cables to the posts. Anybody know what the problem could be Thank you

The 6 volt system is positive ground, the 12  system is negative ground, just wondering if that has something to do with it...usually this sort of problem is due to a leaking diode in the alternator.  You may not see a spark at the terminals, have to use a sensitive ammeter to check for current draw. Lastly, is it a good battery ?
