V8 Engines / Re: 318 to 350

I am hoping to find a truck at the wreckers or salvage yard that would have a complete engine, tranny, wiring etc. Just not sure what year would be best suited.

V8 Engines / 318 to 350

I have recently cooked my 318 and am thinking of installing a 350 chevy with the 400 turbo. To those who have done this install, what year of truck engine do I look for for that’s fuel injected but without all the pollution apparatus.

Metal Bombardiers / Re: Power Steering for R Models
« on: December 24, 2018, 07:13:13 am »
I installed the power steering as per 'Old Blues' drawings and it works very well. If I was to do it again I would install larger 'love joy' connectors. Mine are smaller in diameter than another fellows that has the same install. The rubbers on mine pound out whereas his never have.  Just sayin.....

Even a model number that I could get Napa to work with would help.

I am looking for a 12 volt (or 6volt) starter for 251 flathead. I am covertiing to 12 volt system so would like to upgrade to key start as opposed to the current foot pedal start. So must be the type with solinoid to engage bendix.

Averyman what did you do with your starter when you changed up to 12v. Did you leave the starter as mechanical or did you change to key start?

I can see the solinoid energizing the starter motor but what engages the starter drive in your application?

Yes I am going to follow your post from earlier. However I'm unclear how a solinoid will work as the lever on the starter motor engages the starter drive manually about the time it hits the button on the starter to engage starter motor? I would like to stay with 6 volt starter if able.

I'm wanting to convert an old bug I have with a 251 flathead from 6v to 12v which is easily done. I plan to leave the 6volt starter in place but want to get rid of the mechanical start(foot pedal) and convert to key start. Can I adapt a solinoid to existing 6volt starter etc..... anyone done this or do I have to try find a 12 v starter with solinoid etc that would bolt up?
