General Discussion / Swamp Dog and Cletus are down
« on: January 04, 2011, 10:25:54 pm »
Just went out to start our 1952 Narrow Bombardier and noticed there was a ticking noise in the Ford 300 engine that did not sound good. We thought it may have a lifter or a valve problem after sitting over the summer period. We noticed the noise seemed to go away so we ran it about a kilometer but noticed the power was poor.

After getting back to the shop we pulled the valve cover to inspect the valve train while running. The valves and rockers seemed fine so we pulled the plugs and noticed no. 1 cylinder had loose metal in it and the piston has been hammered up. The engine has only 100 plus hours since overhaul but has seen some heavy pulling in that time.
We will pull it and give it what is required as soon as possible.

While getting some advise from Bluetoque ,he mentioned that the Ford 300 is noted for failing the No 1 cylinder due to cooling issues from the water jacked design.
Any comments on this problem will be appreciated.

Hello guys, I'm sure you've noticed I messed everything up for you on the forum.  Especially OT, I tried to spin everything around to confuse the old guy.  Anyway I made the Wood and metal machines separate and got rid of the Narrow and Wide sections.  I also did a little bit of clean up by moving topics into their appropriate areas.  Hope you can still find things.

let me know if there is other things to be done.

Trail Talk / Hauling frieght to the cabin via Bombardier
« on: March 26, 2009, 08:13:24 pm »
Cletus and I spent almost a week going to and from the cabin. First getting the trail put in with snow machines.  Then taking in the bombardier to pack the trail.  Once the trail was in good enough shape, we hauled in 2 loads of building supplies and kitchen cupboards that Cam Mclean made for us.  Cletus will be trying to get a steel dock up before spring hits as well.

You may notice that the blue trailer is in fact a sleigh as well.  Cletus built it with multipurpose in mind. Pull it behind your truck then throw the ski's on and pull it behind your bombardier.  Perfect for hauling ice shacks or something like that.

Here are some pictures of us in action.

Trail Talk / Bombardier Rally 09 Pictures
« on: March 22, 2009, 07:57:27 pm »
Well the Bombardier Rally was again a success. I heard there was 27 machines there.  Everything went along nicely with thanks to Ted and Mary Ann Playford for their efforts to make it all happen each and every year.

The fish fry was early in the day, Pickerel, Pike and Trout were on the menu cooked by Les and Karen Ostryck.  And the afternoon was spent looking over each others machines lots of BS and cold drinks were consumed.

The weather was a little cool for standing around, I think -20 for the most part. But everybody was a good sport and stuck around for most of the day.  And we also had a good shot of snow at night when we were making our 30 mile journey home that night.

I would have liked to take more pictures but my camera wasn't in favor of the weather so this is all I have.  I did take video which will take me a while to edit into something half decent.

I've posted some names with the pictures, but a lot of the machines I can't remember their owners and I apologize.
