Drivetrain / Re: Driver sprocket rubber
« on: December 16, 2007, 06:21:29 pm »
Well I ended up doing this today....I am sure that there is an easier way than what I do.  I let the air out of the front and rear tire, tied a come along to the front of the track, attched it to the front ski spindle and it came off relatively easy.   Putting it back on was a bit of a struggel thoug, put with a pallet jack and a bar, and called in the assistance of a friend and we were able to put the drive sprocket on.

I used John Deere round baler belting.   It is very strong, pliable and easy to work with.    An angle drill, 3 or four needle nose vise grips, an air chisel to knock off the old bolts, some fresh new bolts and I was ready to reinstall the wheel in an hour or so.

Thanks for the information.

Drivetrain / Driver sprocket rubber

I need to replace the rubber on my drive sporckets on my narrow guage.    What is the best way to remove the driver sprockets.   Is there a way to loosen the track tension so that the sprocket can be easily removed and reinstalled?

That is Dan Shaver. Shaver & Sons Enterprises Ltd. (204) 467-2605. Do you mean the 3 inch wide lagging that bolts on to the aluminum or cast sprockets or do you have the molded sprockets ? If you have the alum or cast you can cut 3 inches out of the centre tread on a bias (not steel belted) tire and it will last a long time but may not be worth the extra hassle if you can buy the lagging precut. It is a bit of a struggle installing but not too bad if you can get the sprocket in a vise and you have lots of c clamps and vise grips  to hold while you drill and bolt through the existing holes.

Thanks...I really appreciate the information.    Larry..

I am looking for the rubber that attaches to the track drivers/sprockets.    Does anyone know where I could source this.   Someone mentioned Shavers?  Schafers?.    Do they have a website?.   Does anyone know where to contact them?   Thanks

Drivetrain / Suspension adjustment
« on: January 17, 2007, 08:19:43 pm »
I just acquired a narrow guage.   Having seen these in West Yellowstone many years ago, I have always dreamed of owning one.   I had no idea as to narrow guage or wide guage or what the difference was.  So I am learning quickly.   The machine I picked up is a 1951 6cyl and 6volt.   We will change it over to 12v shortly.

I do have a question though as it relates to front suspension.    My machine which I am told is a B12, seems to have one front knuckle (??if that is what it is called) sagging more than the other side.    My question is: can this be adjusted and if so, how would I go about doing it?  Any help would be greatly appreicated.

I acquired the machine simply for pleasure and so far, it is a riot.
