Orin you were not alone, I didn't know what the boys were talking about either. I just looked it up & it makes sense. Thanks Cranman for that tip !! It sure will come in handy.

Orin, how's the work going? I have snow on the ground over here so my garage is pretty cold these days. Just might have to add the wall panels. ha ha

If its not raining its snowing. So i moved the old girl to the shed to work inside.http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/orinleecarlson/005.jpg Its been kind of slow going, working on the front right now.http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/orinleecarlson/018.jpg

http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/orinleecarlson/020.jpg I made the fenders out of 5/8s treated plywood and doubled all the 1" strips under them, hoping to make it a little more solid.http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/orinleecarlson/022.jpg

http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/orinleecarlson/024.jpg I put the front doors in to make sure they fit right while i'm doing the framing around them. Have to go to Swan or Thepas tomorrow for some more bolts and screws then back at it.

Well you have a good start with the new oak. I was lucky that I got away with limited oak rot on mine and didn't have to replace all of it. You certainly have a big job ahead but now that the tunnnel is done you are well on the way. When you see a bombardier like this it makes you realize what a bunch of screws can hold together. Remember that when you make her climb over the next pressure ridge this winter. ha ha

Orin in the second last pic it looks like the fan blade is mounted directly to your pulley.
Quote from Grfishmaker;
Ok kpm, here's my request to you. In your travels, if you can; could you try to locate a 5 blade fan for my wide gauge? It's for a 300 Ford. I remember you telling me the difference in cooling between a 4 and 5 blade fan. I was told by Orin to make sure it is a ridgid fan, not a flex fan and not a clutch fan.
Orin by mounting the fan this way, I guess it keeps your engine running cooler ?? Do you know @ what temp the engine will run at with this setup ?? I watched a show last weekend showing an electric fan mounted to the outside of the rad. They claim it pushes more cold air to the motor than pulling from the inside. Any thoughts on that ??

PS. My engine has a 5 blade fan now, but it won't fit to the pulley as it has a different bolt pattern. Any tips for this old trucker ??

O.T.  My fan bolts right to the water pump, 4 bolts. Where does your fan bolt to? I have a 195 therm, so it runs around that. Going to switch to a 180 though and hope its a little better. It still heats up out in the open (on the lake) when going fare wind. When it does i just turn into the wind and let it cool off. Sometime I tie the motor doors open or drop the end gate right down, that helps but if there is a lot of loose snow everything fills up. The way some of the fellas on here have the electric fan on the motor door looks like a good idea, i'm going to do that. I don't know how it would work on the outside of the rad, lots of snow gets sucked in there.

My fan is bolted to the clutch which is connected to the pump with a big left hand thread nut. Two different bolt patterns.

Here's a few pics of how i bent the top boards. I rapped an old sheet around the board and poured boiling water on it, doing this every 5 minutes or so for about 45 minutes. Works pretty good if you don't have a steamer.http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/orinleecarlson/0192.jpg

Orin.. Good job on the oak bend. Notice your drivers window is a little worse for wear. Lots of them around here as often guys just put solid glass in when they reskin the doors. Could send you some with the Frontier school bus to Mafeking or Dawson Bay if you want.

Cranman,  Yeah that would be great. I'm sure in need of better windows. Do you know what gauge of tin is on the doors? I have to redo the loading door.

Speaking of door glass,  does anyone have one of the little piece of wire that keeps the door from pivoting too far in.  It has the little loop on it so it can be pulled sideways to also keep the window closed.

Thanks

Oldsledz

P.S.   looks good Orin,  you are at a much faster pace than I.  I am waiting for new bogie bushings- just ordered them from Dan Shavers,  ordered new tubes for the tires,  AND,  wheel bearings and seals--That is where all the money is in the old Bombardier.

The skin on the doors is 24 guage. It took me,(well actually Cam) 2 sheets 4x 8 to do all the doors except the engine doors. I don't remember the supplier in Winnipeg but they want minimum orders of 8 sheets so a person has to find a body shop or someone that stocks it. You need 1/2 a sheet for the freight door. I wonder if Hood Slasher in Swan might have some. Canadian Tire has only 3 foot wide I think.

Here are a couple of the latest pics. http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/orinleecarlson/045.jpg

http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/orinleecarlson/044.jpg I think the frame work is almost done, a little to do in the front yet where the tin is behind the shocks and make new blocks for behind the half moon gear on the steering. I phoned around here to get plywood and all i can find is "good one side". One place told me they could order "good two sides", but i had to buy a whole lift!  :o Don't think I need that much.
